We’re happy to announce that Evensong with the Winthrop Singers recommences on Thursday 1st August and we’d love to see you there!
The Winthrop Singers is a chapel choir made up of not only music students but also students from across all areas of study at UWA.
Founded in 2007 by Dr Nicholas Bannan, the choir rehearses twice a week and performs a weekly Evensong or Sung Eucharist at St George’s College Chapel every Thursday at 6pm during the university semester.
The choir’s repertoire spans centuries of music and can vary from Gregorian Chants all the way to modern day Pop songs, and includes music of various levels of difficulty.
The choir has a rich history of performances around WA and beyond, including tours of Geraldton, Albany, and Denmark, and Singapore.
The partnership of UWA’s Conservatorium of Music and St George’s College has allowed for use of rehearsal and performance spaces, performance opportunities and collaborations with Conservatorium groups such as Piñata Percussion and the Symphonic Chorus.
The choir has also collaborated with local and international groups such as West Australian Symphony Orchestra, WA Youth Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers (Singapore), Perth Symphonic Chorus and the Albany Choral Society.
Weekly Chapel services are free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend. (Please note that Evensong is not held during mid-Semester study breaks, the exam period or during university holiday periods.)
