FAQs

A bit more about us

  • A college is a place where university students live to complete their studies. St George’s provides so much more than just a bed and a bathroom. Here at St George’s we place an emphasis on growing our community. The resident body of the College, the College Club, provide activities for residents to get involved in various areas. From sports to the arts, academic and leadership opportunities are also available.

  • St George’s College was the first College to be established in Western Australia back in 1928 and officially opened to residents in 1931. Our castle is modelled in the collegiate Oxbridge style after a bequest from Sir Winthrop Hackett (the same person who established UWA). We are a co-education college that works to provide a holistic approach to living on campus, enabling residents the independence to find their niche and explore themselves.

  • St George’s houses 273 residents from around Western Australia, interstate and abroad.

  • There are designated times when you are able to come to St George’s and be treated to a tour. In first semester our Open Day is held on the same day as UWA! The 17th of March. There is also a Tour Day in semester two, dates TBC.

Our Rooms

  • Unfortunately, as a fresher, you can’t choose your room. They are allocated for you based on the information provided in the application and the interview process.

  • St George’s provides free laundry services on site! No need for tokens, all you need is your clothes and detergent.

  • All you need to do is keep your space tidy. Our housekeeping team come through once a week to vacuum and clean your room. Communal bathroom spaces are cleaned daily to make sure they are hygienic for everyone.

  • The College provides all you need to move in. The rooms come with a bed, wardrobe, a desk and storage. You are allowed to bring decorations for your room as long as the fasteners don’t damage the room at all. Sofas, bean bags etc. aren’t classified as decorations.

  • We will provide the fridge for you! Every room at college is allocated a bar fridge and each resident is, of course, able to use it while in that room.

  • All fresher rooms are king single beds. Double bedrooms are only available for returning residents who have given preference to those rooms.

  • In most cases, freshers will be sharing bathrooms. In the Newby wing, you are only sharing a bathroom with one other person. In all other cases you will be sharing a bathroom with between 8-12 other people. They are cleaned daily to remain sanitary.

Meals and the Kitchen

  • Our amazing kitchen staff cater to all dietary requirements. Our expert chefs have the capability to provide quality meals within your needs. The dietary requirements will need to be submitted via the health form after accepting offers.

  • All meals are either eaten in the Elsey Room or the Hackett Dining Hall. You are not able to eat food outside of the Dining Hall. We pride ourselves on the community aspects of the college and meal times is the primary way we can all meet each other and form connections

  • Of course you can bring a friend but you need to purchase a meal voucher from reception. The cost of these vouchers varies from $10-$20, depending on whether they are having breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

  • You can do your own cooking and baking in the Rogerson Café. There are communal pots and pans for use.

Other
