Relax if you're new to the area. At College, there are many easy, cheap, and quick ways to get around that will keep you from needing a car.

Getting Around

  • There are 3 types of Parking Permits at College.

    1. College Parking Permits

    2. Park Avenue Permit

    3. College Motorcycle Permits

    There are Post Code, Public Transport zone, and circumstance requirements that give priority to those that need permits. Please note that you have to have completed 48 credit points to be eligible for permits, unless under circumstances of especial necessity.

    Special consideration is given to those who meet one or more of the following extenuating circumstances:

    • Medical Conditions impacting duties/mobility

    • Intensive hours at a non-UWA University campus

    • State/National Sporting Commitments

    • Significant work commitments beyond public transport means **

    It is important to acknowledge that over 50% of St George's Residents come from Regional WA. Needing a vehicle to visit family infrequently will likely not be considered as 'extenuating circumstances'.

    **A large number of College residents engage in part-time or casual employment. Significant work commitments could be defined as, requiring regular and intensive hours to support your residence at College and/or university fees.

  • The Student Car Share Programme is a joint effort between UWA and Student Car Share. It lets people in the area join, sign up, and rent cheap cars.

    You can rent one of the two cars at UniHall for an hour, the day, the weekend, or for as long as you need. There are a lot of people who on campus that have rented cars and gone on road trips during semester breaks. It is a cheap alternative to car ownership and parking fees.

  • Bus stops right outside our door take people to the city, Fremantle, shopping areas, beaches, and anywhere else you need to go. The bus ride into the city only takes five minutes. Once you get there, you can take other buses, the train, or the ferry to reach other areas in Perth.

    University students can purchase a Transperth SmartRider from the Guild Village or local news agencies, and travel at a discounted price.

  • When moving into college, family/friends are more than welcome to drive to college and help move you in. During semester however, the frequency of home visits will likely not be considered as an extenuating circumstance for obtaining on-site parking. Please consider TransWA as an option for regional travel.

    TransWA is a bus and train service that travels to a large majority of the regions in WA. The link below allows you to plan your journey home. It is cheaper and safer than driving home for the holiday periods.
